A Legacy of Faith and Community Since 1942

Founded in the heart of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Morris Cathedral Church of God in Christ has a rich and inspiring history that dates back to 1942. Our church was established by the visionary Bishop Morris, a man of deep faith and passion for community service. With a profound commitment to spreading the love of Christ, Bishop Morris laid the foundation for what would become a cornerstone of spiritual life in Milwaukee.

Building a Dream: The First Black Church in Milwaukee

In 1949, after several years of dedicated ministry and unwavering faith, Bishop Morris successfully acquired the land needed to construct a permanent home for the congregation. This monumental achievement led to the establishment of Morris Temple, proudly distinguished as the first black church built in the city of Milwaukee. This historic milestone not only provided a place of worship but also became a symbol of hope and progress in the community.
